About the Client

Moreton Bay Recycling is a concrete recycling company in (you guessed it!) the Moreton Bay Region here in Queensland.

I’ve always enjoyed writing for MBR — they’re a local (to me) small business with a big heart. Since I’m only a short drive away, they’re also one of the few businesses I’ve written for and visited in person. Although an in-person visit wasn’t strictly necessary, it was helpful to see the equipment, products, and yard layout in person — allowing me to get a solid understanding of the business quite early on.

Moreton Bay Recycling is also one of my oldest clients. And until recently, I was unofficially one of their longest standing team members — joining the company prior to it changing hands to the current owners and managing director!

The Work

My primary role with MBR was to write their monthly blogs (and assemble any associated images/infographics). These blogs were typically geared at specific industry keywords, as well as driving traffic to the products/services pages and increasing awareness of the product, services, and benefits (sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective).

But I’ve also had some involvement in other types of business writing. In particular, I’ve written several award applications for the business, which led to them winning the Moreton Bay Business Innovation Award for Sustainability two years in a row.

In order for the award application process to deliver maximum value to the business, I also adapted the submission answers to provide some “quick and dirty” updated website copy. Nothing fancy, but definitely a worthwhile improvement until the business is ready to do a proper website refresh.

Reflections and Results

Recently, growth in their business meant they were able to hire an in-house marketing manager and bring their writing in-house (which makes me very happy for them!). I look forward to continuing to support them with any ad hoc writing jobs that come up in the future.

I’m proud of the work I’ve done with the MBR team! And I think it’s safe to say that if I can still find new things to say about recycled concrete after 5+ years… I can write about nearly anything.
